Wendy is a painter, photographer, and mother of three who grew up in rural Connecticut and can feel the changing of the seasons within her bones. She believes that nature, like art, is deeply intertwined with the roots of our day to day lives, and she has devoted her life to listening. Wendy is always interested in exploring new ways to express her creative self and currently favors mixed media, though she also enjoys textile craft and finds herself spattered with heavy acrylic more often than not.

An Introduction:

I have been making things for as long as I can remember; I just didn’t call it art.

When I was young, I found a piece of Styrofoam in the trash. I washed it off, and then tucked it safely into my closet. I remember thinking, with excitement, that I could make something out of this. Needless to say, my mother had other ideas about my art supplies, and disposed of my “garbage”.

Fast forward many, many years…

I was taking yet another weekend art class at my favorite little store: The Papercraft Clubhouse in Westbrook, CT. I was complaining that the night before, my boyfriend had thrown out my carefully hoarded stash of empty toilet paper rolls! Not only that, but he had even gone on to say that he couldn’t tell my art supplies from the garbage!

And then something clicked. I remembered that little girl with the Styrofoam container, and my mother with the garbage can.

I had come full circle. I needed to make art. I needed to make art with garbage. Not just my garbage, but other peoples’ too.

That’s when I knew.
